 Phonyin Razi Expedition

Sample itinerary - actual may vary

Fri - Day 01 Arrival - Putao 
Upon arrival at Putao airport meet and greet by Putao lodge's representative and transfer to your hotel. Putao, lies in a flat valley, jumping-off point for trekkers who want to explore the region’s deep forests, wildlife sanctuaries and snow-capped mountains etc. After a brief fresh up and a light lunch we take a walk in and around Putao for the orientation. Dinner and overnight at Putao Lodge.

Sat - Day 02 Putao - Shangaung - Wasandum (jeep/trek)
Breakfast and we depart by jeep or truck depending on the group size to upper Shangaung with the distance 17 km which takes us about one hour on a rugged road. Shangaung has two separate villages and inhabitant of both Lisu and Rawan tribes. Our adventure starts as we get off the jeep and start trek to Wasandum with the distance 20 km which takes us about 6 hours trek through Mt. Shangaung at 4468 ft, 1362 meters. First 10 km will be straight up along the trail winding up to the top of Mt. Shangaung from then trail goes all the way down to Wasandum. This will be the testing journey for us as we have to ascend from 1060 meters up to 1362 meters and then descend back to 860 meters. Wasandum is a small Rawan village situates by Namro creek. Dinner and spend the night at Wasandum village house in dormitory style.

Sun - Day 03 Wasandum - Awadum - Kalang - Ziyadum (trek)
Sun Day 03 Wasandum - Awadum - Ziyadum (trek) Breakfast and we lePutao Trekking House - Children - Awadum villageave the village for our today destination at Ziyadum, through relatively flat land with just few of ups and downs. At first we cross Namro creek to Awadum with the distance 7.4 km which takes us about 3 hours. Awadum is mainly inhabited by Lisu and separate in to two by a large paddy field. We continue trek to Ziyadum with the distance 6.4 km which takes us about 2 hours through deep evergreen forests. Ziyadum, situate at altitude of 3440 ft, 1048 meters is the most northwestern and last frontier village in Putao region, mainly resident are Rawan tribes. After a brief fresh up we visit Ziya creek for a fantastic sunset view with a blazing snow Mountains in the west which spark in to steady flowing Ziya creek. Dinner and overnight at Ziyadum village house in dormitory style.

Mon - Day 04 Ziyadum - Camp I
Breakfast and set off for camp I, located at 4980 ft, 1518 meters by the side of Phangran creek. We first pass through farmland later in to deep evergreen forest. After a good two hour walking we reach to confluence of Phonyin and Phangran creeks. We then cross Phonyin creek by bridge and keep trekking up and down along Phangran creek until we reached to our today destination camp I, which took us another two and a half hours. Dinner and overnight at forest camp.

Tue - Day 05 Camp I - Camp II - Camp IIIPutao Trekking House
We enjoy morning beauty of the nature surrounding while our cook prepare breakfast for us. Breakfast and we set off for camp II, situates at 8016 ft, 2443 meters along the route steadily ascending which took us about two hours. Lunch stop and we set off our today destination camp III, situate at 9996 ft, 3046 meters, with the trail mostly step up. After about three hour steadily up hill trek. Dinner and overnight at forest camp.

Wed - Day 06 Camp III - Base Camp
Breakfast and we set off for our today destination base camp, Putao Trekking House - Base Camplocate at 1200 ft, 3658 meters, which should take us about 7 hours. To day journey will be the most challenging one as the route going up and down rapidly. As we go higher the climb becomes deeper and strenuous. We should reach the base camp after a hard and long day on the rough terrain. (so called base camp but there is not even have enough space available to pitch a couple tents). It was impossible to make fire due to heavy snow and no firewood. We just cooked our meal using gas stove and stay freeze during the night. Dinner and overnight in tents.

Thu - Day 07 Base camp - Summit - Base camp
Night will be rather chill as cool air swift through the mountain. Breakfast and we set off for the summit at 14050 ft, 4282 meters. Having about one hour climb we reach on the top of the glacier from where we see a beautiful lake down. This part actually took us just about two and a half hour. From here we can see many other snow capped mountains in the region. This part may take us much longer then we expected as the climb was rather difficult and we carefully had to ascend by the edge of the deep cliff. The view from this spot is spectacular as we literally standing one of the highest spot in the region and most Putao Trekking House of the other summits were right below us. The weather change rapid then ever and the visibility getting limited to just a couple of feet with strong wind as it could sweep through us at no time. We spend some time at the summit and return back to base camp and spend another freezing night. Dinner and overnight in tents.

Fri - Day 08 Base Camp - Camp III - Camp II
We bit farewell to Phonyin Razi and set off for our destination camp II passing by camp III which should take us a good 7 hours. Our return journey will be no easier having descended quite rapidly although it was not as strenuous as up journeys. Dinner and overnight at camp.Putao Trekking House


Sat - Day 09 Camp II - Ziyadum

We listen to the bird's call and enjoy the environment. We have a rather relax morning as the distance to day will be much shorter. After early lunch and set off for Ziyadum through the trek ups and down the valley. After a last up hill trek we reached to Ziya plateau with a smoke from the farm which was the first sign of the civilization ever since we left Ziya one week ago. A warm bath by all mean was a greatest enjoyment. DiPutao Trekking House nner and overnight at Ziyadum village house.

Sun - Day 10 Ziyadum - Wasandum
Set off for Wasandum late in the morning after lunch usually crossing suspension bridges and through beautiful evergreen forests. Dinner and overnight at Wasandum village house.

Thu - Day 11 Wasandum - Shangaung - Putao
(trek/jeep)

Having left the wilderness behind and rePutao Trekking House turning to the clutches of human civilization. As soon as we start the trek goes challenging uphill to the plateau of Mt. Shangaung, before rapidly downhill to Shangaung where our jeep would meets us and takes us back to Putao.  Overnight aPutao Trekking House t Putao Lodge.

Fri - Day 12 Departure
Breakfast and perhaps a last minute shopping at Putao market. Later we transfer to airport for our onward departure flight to conclude this unique experience.
