Tue - Day 01 Arrival, Putao

Upon arrival at Putao airport meet and greet by Putao trekking house's representative and transfer to your hotel. Putao, lies in a flat valley, jumping-off point for trekkers who want to explore the region’s deep forests, wildlife sanctuaries and snow-capped mountains etc. In the afternoon we look out in and around Putao for birds like Grey-backed Shrike, Long-tailed Shrike, Green-backed Tit, Common Kestrel, Grey Bushchat, Daurian Redstart, Striated Grass bird and Yellow-bellied Fantail etc. We shall have a group meeting, introducing among the group members, with local staff and briefing about the trek prior to dinner. Overnight at Putao trekking house.
Wed - Day 02 Putao - Shangaung (jeep/truck)
Breakfast and we depart by jeep/truck to Shangaung, Rawan village about 15 km North of Putao with approx one and half hour drive through flat land with paddy fields and scrubs. Along the way we look out for Raptors like Hen Harrier, Crested Goshawk, and Changeable Hawk-Eagle on the way. This is the last village to where a car can drive and the beginning of a long walk to the thrills of extreme north Myanmar. Here we have more than half a day left for birding around the village, we look out for birds like Ashy Bulbul, Orange-bellied Leaf bird, Long-tailed Broadbill, Scarlet Sunbird, Brown Dipper, Slumberous Redstart, Grey-throated Babbler, Buff-breasted Babblers and others. Overnight at local home.
Thu - Day 03 Shangaung - Jungle Camp (truck)
Breakfast and we start trekking to so-called jungle
camp, birding along the way. The first part of the
track is through secondary forest along a small
river but the second part is through a pristine
forest, both of which is rich in special birds like
Pale-headed Woodpecker, Blyth’s Kingfisher, Little
Fork tail, Coral-billed Scimitar-Babbler,
Black-eared Shrike-Babbler, Blue-spectacled Parrot
bill (Greater Rufous - headed) and Snowy- throated
Babbler. Today is being hardest and the most
strenuous part of the entire trek since we have to
climb up to 1400 meter height shoulder. We have our
dinner and overnight at forest camp.
Fri - Day 04 Jungle camp - Wasandum (trek)
Breakfast and we trek through a primary forest
mostly walking downhill to Wasandum, situated in a
valley about 900 meters above sea level. Along the
way we will look out for birds like Beautiful
Nuthatch, Pin-tailed Pigeon, Collared Treepie, Grey
- bellied Tesia, Slaty - bellied Tesia, Long -
tailed Sibia, Golden Babbler, Rufous - faced
Warbler, White -gorgetted Flycatcher, White-naped
Yuhina etc. We have our dinner and overnight at
Wasandum guest house.
Sat - Day 05 Wasandum - Kalang (trek)
Breakfast and we walk to Kalang with an easy walk
through relatively flat terrain with lots of time
for birding along the way. Today’s specials are
Common Merganser, Ibis bill, Wreathed Hornbill,
Crested Kingfisher, Rufous-necked Laughing Thrussh,
Red-billed Leothrix and Lesser Rufus-headed Parrot
bill. We have our dinner and overnight at one of the
local homes.
Sun - Day 06 Kalang - Ziyadum (trek)
Breakfast and we trek to Ziyadum on relatively flat
with a couple of suspension bridge cross. Forest
between these two villages is very rich in birds
like Rufous-necked Hornbill, Black-eared Shirke
Babbler, Striated Laughing Thrush, Rufous-chinned
Laughing Thrush, Rufous - throated Fulvetta, Eye
browed Thrush, Wedge - billed Wren Babbler. Ziyadum
is a Rawan village situated on the bank of Ziya
river. Ziya river is a significantly important place
since birders found White - bellied Heron for the
first time in more than 60 years. Ziya is also the
last village along the tract. Beyond this, there
will be nothing but primeval forest. We shall have
our dinner and overnight at Ziyadum guest house.
Mon - Day 07 Ziyadum - Forest Camp (trek)
Breakfast and we try to find the White-bellied along
Heron along Ziya river. We will als

o
look up for some Rufous - necked and Wreathed
Hornbills fly bys. Later, we will walk along the
river to our last camp situated on the bank of
Namlang river. The camp is about 1150 meters in
elevation and is carefully chosen to be in a place
where White-bellied Herons fly across every morning
and evening, sometimes in pairs and sometimes
single. On the way from Ziya to the camp we will
have time to watch birds like Yuhinas, Wren
Babblers, Tesias, Laughing Thrushes, Flycatchers,
Robins, Babblers, Pigeons, Fork tails and Scimitar -
Babblers etc. We shall have our dinner and overnight
at forest camp.
Tue - Day 08 Forest camp (trek)
Breakfast and we watch White - bellied Heron fly by
early in the morning, we will explore the forest
around the camp. Those who wish to see higher
elevation birds would walk up the nearby ridge 3 - 4
hours to look for birds like Rufous-bellied
Woodpecker, Crimson - breasted Woodpecker,
Darjeeling Woodpecker, Rufous-throated Partrige,
Striped-throated Yuhina and Black-Faced Warbler.
Those who wish to spend birding only around the camp
will have an easy and relaxed day. Overnight at
forest camp
Wed/Sun - Day 09/13 Forest camp - Ziyadum - Wasandum - Putao (trek/jeep)
We walk back the same way we came up camping at same
sites trying to find birds we have missed on the way
up. We will spend one extra day at Ziyadum village
because its surrounding is rich in birds and could
not be thoroughly explored in one day. We shall have
our dinner and overnight at local homes, guest
houses and camps etc.
Mon - Day 14 Putao
Breakfast and we visit Machanbaw across 211 meters
long Malikha suspension bridge. After visit this
charming town following a visit to so-called "stone
dragon" park which should take approx 20 minute
walk. We continue Mulashidi Lisu village and visit
another suspension bridge across Mula river. We
enjoy beautiful surrounding often back-drop with
snow-capped mountains in distance. As we visit the
sites we also have a chance of birding in and around
those famous sites. We shall have our dinner and
overnight at Putao trekking house.
Tue - Day 15 Onward departure
Breakfast and perhaps shopping at Putao market.
Later transfer to airport for your onward departure
flight to conclude this unique experience. Should
time permit you will visit one of the local villages
to observe traditional dance performance of Rawan
and Lisu youth and daily life activities by the
villagers.
