What are the overnight
facilities in Putao ?
Putao trekking house
operates 4 x bungalows build
identical to local homes in
the region using locally
available materials. All 16
x tastefully decorated rooms
come with attached bathroom,
hot and cold shower. Rooms
are secure, lockable with
windows offering scenic
view. An elegant lobby
includes bar area, fire
place, dinning area and
common area offers
recreation and relaxation.
What are the overnight
facilities during the trek ?
This program involves local
home stay in villages.
Overnight facilities are
established at the village
with basic western toilet.
Night will then be spent in
candle light and wood fire.
Limited amount of hot water
will be supplied for face
wash in every morning.
What will be the temperature
like?
Our season is between
November and May, which
mostly clear skies, warm
during the day and cool
evenings. Temperature
steadily decreases between
late December and early
February. Average
temperature would be between
low 10 and high 22 degree C
but could drop steadily up
to freezing up in the
mountains and often make
difficult to scale the top.
How long is an average trekking in a day?
As this program is designed
specially for the birders we
spend more time birding then
walking straight from point
"A" to point "B". Day
normally starts as early as
day break for the best view
of certain type of the bird
follow by hot breakfast.
Lunch usually is packed and
light during the mid day. We
try to reach overnight camp
well before nightfall in
time for fresh up and relax
before dinner.
What will I see on the
trek ?
This area specially support
a great variety of birdlife
due to its nature of
combination of vegetation
types from dense tropical
lowland jungle, through
subtropical hill forest and
temperate rainforest to high
altitude alpine meadows
allows birder with a great
opportunity to view
residential endemic birds
plus some of the migratory
as well as endangered birds
such as White-bellied Herons
which are rarely to be seen
elsewhere.
How fit do I have to be ?
This is graded as "Moderate"
thus anyone with a
reasonable level of fitness
is required as these trips
involve an amount of ascent
and descent and the
occasional challenging day.
What about meal ?
Our experienced staff will
take care of all catering on
our expedition. Clients with
special dietary requirements
will have to advise us at
the time of booking. A hot
breakfast will be served
around 8 am, lunches usually
are simple and light and
serve during mid day follow
by an hour rest. Dinners
will be more extensive
featuring pre dinner snacks
and deserts.
What about altitude ?
This expedition involves a
trek up to 1150 meters above
sea level which is far below
the point of altitude
sickness.
What about guides ?
We provide an English
language escorted leader
plus an assistance local
guide, who will also be able
to speak the local hill
tribe languages. Upon
request we will also be able
to arrange professional bird
guide at an additional fee.
What about First Aid ?
All our guides are qualified
in wilderness first aid, and
carry a basic medical kit.
Is there any age or
health limit to participate
?
This program is suitable to
any one with normal health
and fitness condition.
However older clients or
clients with pre-existing
medical conditions may
require a doctor’s letter
confirming their fitness for
the trip. During your visit
you are under the direction
of your trip Leader and
he/she has total authority
to determine your
suitability to participate.
