A Journey through Adung Long Valley

Sample itinerary - actual may vary

Fri - Day 01 Arrival, Putao

We shall have an easy morning as we have relatively short distance to cover to day. First part of the trail is relatively on the flat land but once we cross a small suspension bridge the trail goes uphill through dense evergreen forests, high reef and beautiful waterfalls. Legendary British explorer Frank Kingdon-Ward passed through this area in the 1920’s and described the area as one of the most beautiful places he had ever been, walking through a living paradise of old growth climax forest. Although it's only a little more then 14 km journey to day will be so far the most challenging one. On the start a short distance of plain path follow by a climb up the slope up to 600 meters top crossing a 60 meter long bamboo bridge near Sanya falls. Dinner and overnight at forest camp.

After an extremely steep descent through thick forest we finally cross Maykha (as known as) Nantaming river by 91 meter long suspension bridge to reach our camp, Pangnamdim is still another half hour walk away. Pangnamdim, lying peacefully at centre of Htrong and Nantaming river valley next to Maykha river flowing crystal clear beneath suspension bridge that crosses to the village. We visit the village while our team prepares dinner for us. Dinner and overnight at camp.

This will probably be the most water crossing part of the entire trek. This route actually was build by British as mule trek however 1951 earth quake which jolted Assam has travel all the way to this far to damage most part of it. Tue Day 12 Gawai - Dazungdum (trek)
Breakfast and we continue trek to Dazungdum, situates at 4400 ft, 1341 meters above sea through the path goes narrow valley along the side of the mountains. As soon as we leave Gawai we have to cross Namtamai river by small rattan suspension bridge with just two bamboos on the foot path. The river down below looks rather angry as it make huge sound with speedy current. There has never been a mule trek on this part thus we have to walk through the gorge, river bank climb straight ups and downs. To day we shall entered in to deep in to the Adung Long valley. Namtamai river was never the same as before but much deep down through big gorge and stone boulders which makes river like angry waterfalls. We continue to Dazungdum at a distance 6 km which should be about 3 hours we finally arrive at beautifully set up at the confluence of three rivers of Namtamai, Seinkhuwan and Adungwang rivers which later forms Maykha (as known as Nantaming river). Once we passed the Thalarhtu we spot a beautiful Aroungwang water fall that flows from high mountains. This part of the trek will be a little over 10 km but takes us about 3 hours to reach. Once we cross Adungwang river by suspension bridge we finally get to the last village or Dazungdum, surrounding by snow capped mountains with a flat plateau towards river valley which covers with rich wheat fields. The Tibetan prayer wheel and prayer flags are of symbol of Tibetan culture. This village is inhabited mainly by Tibetans and home to Namah Gyan Sein, the only local ever to conquer Mt. Hkakaborazi in 1996 along with Japanese climber Takashi Osaki. This village is composed of 8 wooden houses and one Buddhist monastery and it is the last village to be found on the Himalayan trek.
