A Journey through Adung Long Valley

What are the overnight facilities in Putao?
Putao trekking house operates bungalows build identical to local homes in the region using locally available materials. All rooms come with attached bathroom, hot and cold shower. Rooms are secure, lockable with windows offering scenic view. An elegant lobby includes bar area, fire place, dinning area and common area offers recreation and relaxation.

What are the overnight facilities during the trek?
This expedition involves both local home stay and tent accommodation. With a local home stay we choose a suitable home in a village. Night will then be spent in candle light and wood fire. Toile will be clean but mostly local squat type. Limited amount of hot water will be supplied for face wash in every morning. When pitching a tent, two clients will share a tent, unless you have requested and paid for a single supplement.

What will be the temperature like?
Our season is between October and May, which is winter and best tourist season in Putao region. Mostly clear skies, warm during the day and cool evenings. Temperature steadily decreases between late December and early February. Average temperature would be between low 4/10 and high 22/30 degree Celsius but could drop steadily up to freezing up in the mountains.

How long is an average trekking in a day?
All our treks are designed at 4 to 8 trekking hours per day. Day normally starts at 8 or 9 in the morning follow by breakfast. Lunch usually is packed and light, followed by 2 to 3 hours more trekking in the afternoon. We try to reach our destination well before nightfall in time for fresh up and relax before dinner.

What will I see on the trek?
This trek offer across the most tribal villages then any other trek that we offer in the program. Thus this will obviously a great advantage for cross-cultural experience. The eastern Himalayas are heavily forested, ranging from dense evergreen tropical into mix of subtropical in the valleys and temperate forest with pines mixed temperate forest, where trees are thickly padded with moss. This zone is recognizable by its precipitous ridges with sporadic patches of silver fir forest and broad, steep alpine meadows. Large parts of the day will be spent under the towering canopy of ancient rainforest and temperate cloud forest, or following cascading mountain streams. At other times there will be views of snowcapped mountains as we enter open areas of village habitation. There will be plenty of bird life, butterflies and other exotic flora and fauna on offer. Several species of Rhododendron, wild orchids, pine, rattan and bamboo are indigenous to this region. It's likely that you may encounter some of the rare and endangered species birds.

How fit do I have to be?
This trek classified as "Demanding" and includes longer trekking days at higher altitudes and difficult terrain. Thus suitable for most adventurous and stronger individuals with physically challenging and more suited to regular hill-walkers who are used to extended days and competent over difficult terrain. However do not require technical mountaineering skills or previous experience.

What about meal?
We take care of all catering on your expedition, you are always welcome to assist if you wish to. If you have any special dietary requirements then you will have to advise us at the time of booking. A hot breakfast will be served around 7 or 8 am, lunch usually is simple, light and serve during mid day follow by a short rest. Dinner usually will be more extensive featuring pre dinner snacks and deserts.

What about altitude?
This is one of our most strenuous expeditions and will be much more difficult and challenging trek despite of the altitude of 2500 meters which is far below the point of altitude sickness.

What about guides?
We provide English language speaking escorted leader plus an assistance local guide, who will also be able to speak the local ethnic dialect. Upon advance request we will be able to arrange other language leader such as German, French, Italian Spanish and Japanese at additional cost.

What about First aid?
All our guides are qualified in wilderness first aid, and carry a basic medical first aid kit.

Is there any age or health limit to participate?
There is no such age limit to participate. However since this is a demanding expedition includes longer trekking days thus suitable for most adventurous and stronger propel. During your expedition you will be under the direction of your trip leader and he or she has total authority to determine your suitability to participate.
